GLION Institute of Higher Education | Mohamed BOUCHAAB | MBA In International Hospitality & Service Industries Management
1/ Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Mohamed Bouchaab, currently living in Dubai, UAE and working as Corporate Operations Support Manager at Shaza Hotels. Started my hospitality career right before graduation where I was offered a sales position at a newly opened hotel brand. The hotel was located in Medina, KSA, which by itself was a great opportunity for me to face a new challenge and hone my skills in a completely new environment and culture. Two years later, I was moved to Dubai where I had to put on a corporate hat and join a dynamic team to lead the expansion of the brand and set standards and create everlasting memories for our guests. I am very lucky now that I have the chance to be exposed to different aspects of the hospitality industry as I deal with operational hotels and at the same time, I oversee the pre-opening phase of the newly signed hotels.
Being a bachelor graduate from Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) with a double degree in BA and Management, hospitality was never an option that had ever crossed my mind. Following the steps of my friends, my options were completely different. Until an email with a link to a hospitality school was sent to me. My world was changed forever.
2/ Why choose Hospitality Business studies? What is it that made you decide?
Hotels have always intrigued me and I have always loved being in them, but I was never well informed about it. Until I started looking into its possibilities and what it can offer as a future career plan. After making the decision to apply to a hospitality school, several criteria were considered and fulfilled. The MBA programme that was offered was similar to any other top MBA programme around the world in addition to actual job like training programmes on the premise or anywhere in the world that give its students first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be a professional hotelier. These are hard factual reasons that are impossible to find anywhere else especially for young graduates who struggle to find a job or be integrated in a professional setting.
3/ Why did you choose Glion Institute of Higher Education?
Glion was an obvious choice for a person like me who was looking for a programme that would allow him to have an edge in a market that is considered as a very competitive one. The school reputation was obviously something that encouraged me to pursue this path while the great feedback from different sources only empowered my decision to finally apply for Glion. The school's name works as a guarantee or a stamp of trust for any employer in the hospitality sector which is something I realised later on.
4/ Can you tell us about your student experience at Glion?
My experience at Glion was exceptional. During the years spent on campus, a student not only gets to learn the nitty gritty of business studies but most importantly they get to build a lifelong relationship with people from every corner of the world. This allows students to expand their mind and take them out of their comfort zones to explore different aspects of life that enriches theirs.
5/ Was it easy to find a job after completing your studies?
I was lucky enough to be recruited 3 months before graduating for a managerial position.
